The History of “The Taste”

The Taste of the Tri-Cities and the Spirit of Community Awards (SOCA) were originally presented by the Society for Community Development (SCD) with both events occurring on the same night for 10 years.

After experiencing rapid growth, the planners used a brief hiatus time to regroup and ensure that both events were current and fresh. In 2008, The Taste of the Tri-Cities was presented as a trade show style event featuring all of the great things the community has to offer from restaurants to businesses. While the show was a tremendous success, the community consistently voiced its wish to have SOCA brought back.

The Taste and SOCA Together Again

2010 marked the return of TASTE and SOCA together and they were greeted with great enthusiasm resulting in a smashing success!!

The Taste remains a trade show style event with an emphasis on food and lifestyle; popular local restaurants, food and beverage manufacturers, fitness and nutrition experts, retailers, artisans and many others from the Tri-Cities business community will come together for the evening of food and celebration!  Attendees can make the most of this one-of-a-kind opportunity to ask their health, fitness and lifestyle questions of the many exhibitors and specialists on hand.

SOCA has proven to be an excellent way in which to recognize and celebrate the participation of the unsung heroes in our community. These are everyday citizens who voluntarily contribute their time, talent and/or resources to make our communities strong and liveable for all.

SCD has taken the event back to original roots and brought it back bigger and better than ever.
